A Message Rat is a special type of sentient, intelligent rat that is Magykally able to receive and deliver messages given to it by a Wizard or other individuals with some knowledge of Magyk.^{[citation needed]} Strict rules governed the Message Rat Service and a Message Rat was not supposed to speak unless dictated by the command Speeke Rattus Rattus.^{[citation needed]} Stanley was a notable Message Rat who played an important role in many of the affairs of the Castle.^{[citation needed]}
